13jbpatch650This past Monday, the city of Los Angeles lost Dr. Jerry Buss.  Jerry Buss had been a chemist and a mathematician long before he bought the
Los Angeles Lakers in 1979. The self-made millionaire with a head for business and an impresario’s heart assailed the NBA with every skill he acquired along the way.  I have been a Laker fan since the early 80s, the dream team was put together by Dr. Jerry Buss.  He recreated the NBA as it is now known.  “SHOWTIME”

Happy President’s Day

Here is a movie about President Lincoln-I find it fitting to share with you a different perspective on Lincoln, through his best friend and body guard. You might recognize one of the actors from Martha’s Kitchen. Johnny plays John Wilkes Booth.

February 10-14

ash-wednesday_t

Ash Wednesday, the seventh Wednesday before Easter Sunday, is the first day of the Season of Lent. Its name comes from the ancient practice of placing ashes on worshippers’ heads or foreheads as a sign of humility before God, a symbol of mourning and sorrow at the death that sin brings into the world. It not only prefigures the mourning at the death of Jesus, but also places the worshipper in a position to realize the consequences of sin.   Ash Wednesday is a somber day of reflection on what needs to change in our lives if we are to be fully Christian.

This week in 7th grade, we will be preparing for Lent.  Students will learn the symbolism behind the ashes and the meaning for Lent.  Grades 7 & 8 will also be vigorously working on preparing for the St. Monica’s Learning Fair and the Notre Dame Fair.  All art projects including photography will be due on Thursday of this week.  There is no school on Friday February 15-19.   The day we return to school, we will be headed to St. Monica’s and the VERY next day to Notre Dame High School.  I invite parents to join us on both trips if you wish.  For NDA fair, we will need parent volunteers to drive ALL students.

Thank you for everything that made parent conferences on Friday.  If you couldn’t make it, you can email me sbhakta@gsbh.net  and we can work out a day and time.

This week:  Tuesday – Mardi Gras  Wednesday – Ash Wednesday Mass (join us at GS Church 8:15am) Thursday- St. Valentine’s Day  Friday – Tuesday – No school

8th grade science test-Monday      algebra/pre-algebra tests Tuesday

Hope all the girls enjoyed the father daughter dance…Cant wait to hear about it.

Have a happy week.
