Ash Wednesday Mass

Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. The ashes used are gathered after the Palm Crosses from the previous year’s Palm Sunday are burned. In the liturgical practice of some churches, the ashes are mixed with the Oil of the Catechumens^[1] (one of the sacred oils used to anoint those about to be baptized), though some churches use ordinary oil. This paste is used by the priest who presides at the service to make the sign of the cross, first upon his own forehead and then on each of those present who kneel before him at the altar rail. As he does so, he recites the words: “Remember (O man) that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Musical Notes-8th Grade Lab

Musical instruments produce sound by setting up standing waves. Those waves can be on a string or in a column of air. In this lab, the students use bottles, test tubes and beakers, to produce different musical note, we even had enough notes to play a simple tune.  Dale was the winner playing “Silent Night”, but the entire class did an awesome job. 

7th grade Retreat

This Friday- 7th grade students are to be dropped off and picked up at the parish center (church). Drop off-8am, pick-up- 1230pm. Students are to dress in spirit shirts. Small snack will be provided, thanks to Samual’s mom. You may bring an additional snack if you would like. Please no backpacks or books.

Fast from judging others; feast on the Christ dwelling within them.

Fast from apparent darkness; feast on the reality of light.
Fast from words that pollute; feast on phrases that purify.
Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger; feast on patience.
Fast from pessimism; feast on optimism.
Fast from worry; feast on trust.
Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation.
Fast from negatives; feast on affirmatives.
Fast from unrelenting pressures; feast on unceasing prayer.
Fast from hostility; feast on nonviolence.
Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness.
Fast from self-concern; feast on compassion for others.
Fast from personal anxiety; feast on eternal truth.
Fast from discouragement; feast on hope.
Fast from facts that depress; feast on truths that uplift.
Fast from lethargy; feast on enthusiasm.
Fast from suspicion; feast on truth.
Fast from thoughts that weaken; feast on promises that inspire.
Fast from idle gossip; feast on purposeful silence.

Gentle God, during this season of fasting and feasting, gift us with Your Presence, so we can be gift to others in carrying out your work. Amen.
