Book Fair is almost here!

Dear Parents,

Good Shepherd Catholic School is hosting our annual scholastic Book Fair and we invite families, teachers and the community to share in this celebration of books and reading. Not only does the Book Fair help raise funds to purchase essential classroom and library resources, it encourages reading among our students. As students grow older, it is so important to keep books in their lives. Students who remain readers now are more likely to be lifelong learners. Readers develop larger vocabularies, a great knowledge of the world, and higher academic achievement.

Come and explore our large selection of books and find great reads for every person in your family. All of the books have been carefully reviewed and approved for young readers. These books represent the best authors and illustrators in children’s publishing. We are passionate about reading and hope you and your family can be part of our Book Fair experience. The Book Fair will also offer specially priced books and educational products, including new releases, award-winning titles, children’s classics, interactive software, books for adults, and current bestsellers from more than 150 publishers.

Veterans Day November 11 No School

Veterans Day is an annual American holiday honoring military veterans. Both a federal holidayand a state holiday in all states, it is usually observed on November 11. However, if it occurs on a Sunday then the following Monday is designated for holiday leave, and if it occurs Saturday then either Saturday or Friday may be so designated.[1] It is also celebrated asArmistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.)

The holiday is commonly printed as Veteran’s Day or Veterans’ Day in calendars and advertisements. While these spellings are grammatically acceptable, the United States government has declared that the attributive (no apostrophe) rather than the possessive case is the official spelling.[2]
